The Infrared Free Electron Laser (IR-FEL) at RRCAT, Indore is now fully operational along with its associated user laboratory. The machine complements the Indus-1 SRS in RRCAT by delivering high brightness electromagnetic radiation in the wavelength region from 12.5-50 micrometer, with an average spectral brightness >10¹² photons/s/mm²/ mrad²/0.1 % BW over its full designed wavelength range and a peak brightness around four orders of magnitude higher. Another unique property of the IR-FEL is that it delivers monochromatic radiation with a typical spectral width ~1.4 %, with precise wavelength tunability over its designed spectral region. The IR-FEL delivers MW level peak power in 10 ps long pulses and >30 microJoule energy per pulse, which can facilitate the study of nonlinear phenomena in functional materials otherwise not possible using conventional sources at these wavelengths.

To enhance the scope of utilization of the IR-FEL light for scientific research, ISPA sponsored interaction meetings with the existing and potential new users are now organized at RRCAT at regular intervals. Our "2^nd User Interaction Meeting on Science with IR/THz FELs" is being organized at RRCAT on November 19 & 20, 2026.

A roadmap prepared by the Indian Accelerator Science & Technology community "Mega Science Vision-2035, Accelerator S&T and Applications" has been released.
