A one day theme meeting on ‘Operational experience of particle accelerators in India’ is being organized at Convention Centre, RRCAT, Indore on June 13th, 2025.
Particle accelerators of different types like Synchrotron Radiation Sources, Cyclotrons, Proton Accelerators, Palletron, LINAC etc are operational in DAE and other institutes for various applications. After installation & commissioning of these accelerators, regular operation of these complex machines is also a stupendous task, specially when the facilities are operated as national facility. RRCAT has vast experience of operating synchrotron radiation sources (SRS) - Indus-1 & Indus-2 in round-the-clock (RTC) mode by trained & authorized personnel since April 2010. Exhaustive training, qualification & licensing programme for operators of Indus facility is also recognized under qualification incentive scheme of DAE.
The operation & maintenance activity requires knowledge and experience of accelerator subsystems in multiple domains. The personnel involved should be aware with importance of periodic inspection, methods to assess component aging, importance of various logistics, coordination among multiple subsystems, operator training and qualification, applicable safety guidelines of AERB etc which are improved with experience.
The theme meeting will serve a good platform to exchange the ideas and experiences among experts from different operating particle accelerator facilities in India.
